thing is. It just does not make any sense, with gearbox has zero experience with rts games. Or are they going to make fps homeworld?

still I hope for best outcome.

"Wow, this is way better than Paradox or Stardock getting it!" - Said no one ever.

on Apr 22, 2013

Lame. Hopefully they don't screw it up, but their track record is less than awesome and they have no experience in the genre.

My apologies for jumping to a potentially embarrassing conclusion G_Bison.

Was really hoping for Sega.  Yeah they're on the box of Colonial Marines, but their track record has been pretty good lately.

Stardock doesn't need the license to make something good though, and it sounds like they've got plans until 2015 anyways.

No sweat dude, I'm cool. I can see how it looked after your comment, but at another thread, I was teasing on who may have won and I was way off. I thought the winner was Jon Shafer who had a hand at Civilization V, which would have been better than Gearbox...

Edit: Here's a tweet from the editor from Joystiq.com, Too funny...

They bid >3X what we had bid so they seriously wanted it. That's a serious commitment to the franchise. I think it'll be fine.

on Apr 23, 2013

they'll outsource it for a few years and then panic

and... jon shafer?? that's one strange guess. doesn't he have enough on his plate as it is?

I find it hilarious how people forget Gearbox created Counter Strike which is probably most played MP FPS ever, not to mention as far as team based FPS goes still the best.

on Apr 23, 2013

No, Gearbox created Opposing Force, not Counter Strike.

on Apr 23, 2013

Ming Le and Jess Cliffe were the original creators of counter strike (mod for Half Life).

on Apr 23, 2013

Yea, Gearbox just turned the mod into retail.

Well, one of the reasons was he left Stardock in Feb of this year, which was the same time the THQ auction was announced. And founded Conifer Games to work on a untitled 4x game. So I incorrectly guessed that Stardock was going to set him up with Homeworld after they acquired the IP from auction...

I think they love Jon, but I doubt they love him enough to buy him a million dollar IP for his new company.  That's a lot of love.

Lord Xia
That's a lot of love.

Well, he just turned 28 sooo, he has been coding since he was 8. He has remarkable skill at such a young age. He was making mods for Civilization III when he was still in high School. Now imagine him showing off some stuff for Homeworld to Stardock we don't know, yeah, it was a leap so when Sega or Ea wasn't mentioned, and Stardock came second. I thought that could be a logical choice. Like I said, a leap...

on Apr 23, 2013

Eh, I would have thought Gearbox being the one to win this IP was a pretty far flung leap too.
